Alex sat alone on a bench surrounded by a cluster of trees. It had been a few hours after he had been told of the news that his father, his all-powerful father Kane Hikari, had been killed. The news hadn't quite sunken in when Alex first heard it from The Doctor, but now that he had been given some time to mull it over, he now realized sadly that his father, his one and only father, was gone, and he wasn't coming back. As soon as he came to that realization, he didn't want to stay in the Hikari building, he had to get out, go somewhere, anywhere but there. He burst out of the building and ran into the school grounds, engulfed by the trees. He continued running, going nowhere in particular, stopping for nothing.
As he ran, he saw a bench in the distance, and slowed his pace down, stopping in front of it. Breathing hard, he found that he was in a cluster of trees, hidden from wandering eyes. That was all he needed, he didn't want anyone to see him, especially his classmates. When he made sure no one was around, he let all the emotions he had kept inside burst out, like a dam, and cried, cried until he had no more tears left to shed. " Why dad....WHY!?!?" he screamed at the sky as he fell down on his knees, " Why did you have to leave us now!?"
The wind blew through the trees, rustling the leaves, almost like his father's spirit had come to show Alex that although he was gone physically, he was still here spiritually. " Why..." he said softly, as his tears ran down his face and landed onto the ground. When he felt like he could cry no more, Alex wiped the tears away, and stood up, from that moment on, he would cry no more, he had no more tears left to shed. Moving over to the bench, he sat down on it, staring at the ground.
As he sat there, lost in thoughts, he began humming, humming a song he had heard his father play for him and Kyoko before, the painful memories rushing back, but Alex didn't shed a tear, he had already cried his heart out, no tears would appear again.
- Flashback -
" Play that song dad, the one you always played for us!" a happy boy's voice rang out, as a man sat at the piano, a smile on his face, as he looked at the two children standing nearby. " That song again? Alright, if that's what you want." the man replied, as the boy and girl shouted happily. The man turned to the piano, and paused for a minute, his hands poised over the keys, the metronome the most prominent sound, for now.
He then began playing, his hands gliding over the keys, as the boy closed his eyes and swayed his head to the music, sitting in a armchair, his sister on the couch adjacent to him. The boy looked small in the armchair, almost like it would swallow him up. The girl, taking advantage of her brother, who's eyes were closed, snuck up quietly and pounced, tickling him into submission. " Gotcha!" she cried out happily, as she began tickling the boy, who opened his eyes and cried out. " Ah! Stop! Th...that tickles!" he gasped out, trying to escape, to no avail. His sister continued, the boy trying to escape her clutches again and again, until he finally escaped and ran around the room, his sister chasing after him.
The man continued playing, a smile on his face, although he didn't take his eyes of the music sheet, he was happy his two children were having fun. Finishing the song, he allowed the last few notes to resonate, and finished. Turning, he watched his daughter catch his son and tackle him to the ground on the soft carpet. " Hahahaha, were you two listening, or busy playing?" he asked, getting off the piano bench and moving over to them, as the two wrestled playfully, the boy trying to escape, the girl trying to keep hold of him. " Both!" they replied together, making the man laugh, his laughter fading away...
- Present -
Alex shook his head, clearing his mind of the memory. He continued to stare at the ground, unaware that he wasn't the only one around. Only when he heard the crinkling of leaves did he look up and around. " Is someone here?"

Luyu went deep into the forest. She had heard of students being attacked here by demons lately, but it didn't matter. Hopefully one would appear and take the woman to death, for there she could have solace. There, she could have Kane.
A soft hand rested on the bark of the tree, a diamond ring sparkling on it. The woman's lovely face was stained from tears and twisted in bitterness. Opening her mouth in a silent cry, she fell to her knees, the other fist slamming against the cold bark. The tree exploded, slivers flying everywhere.
Shocked, a hand clapped over her twisted mouth. Luyu was losing control of herself. It had not been the fist that had shattered the tree, but her voice, her silent cry. Gripping her stomach, the sobs wracked her slender frame, not for the first time that day. She had just received the news, though deep down she already knew. Kane had thought the Doc was going to die, and so had thrown himself into the heat of the explosion in an attempt to save him. Little had Kane known, that the Doctor had one trick left, and it was too late to save the Principal.
Falling to her side, she lay silent in the wet grass, wood chips all around. Closing her eyes, she listened. Maybe, she thought, she could hear him calling for her from the spiritworld. Maybe he would come back for her, instead of leaving her all alone.
In the silent, Luyu began to wretch, though there was nothing left in her stomach.
Swollen eyes opened, she did hear something. Her ears, so atuned to sound, heard a familiar cry, though it wasn't Kane. Standing, she wiped at her face and walked swiftly out of the forest, intent on finding the voice, so full of angst. Stepping out of the edge of the forest, she saw a grove of trees. That was where the cry had come from.
Stepping through the trees, she now recognized the voice that called, "Is someone here?" It was Alex, Kane's son. He hadn't left her all alone, she realized.
Looking at him was almost painful, for he so resembled his father when Luyu had first met him. Even the trees were the same, for she had found him cutting class in a tree. He had been so forward with her, she had never met anyone like him. Feeling the urge to retch at the sudden pain from the memory, she pushed it back, out of her mind.
"Alex..." She said softly, so unsure of the proper step to take. The woman had had the boy in class and had spent time with the family, but she was unsure how he and his sister truly felt about her. It didn't matter, though, she realized. They were brought together by a common loss, and Luyu would be their strong support, if they wanted her.
Squaring her shoulders, she stepped forward, closer to the boy. He looked like he had been crying, but his eyes were dry. The ring Kane had given her caught the sunlight and shone brightly for a moment. "Are you alright?"

Alex stared as a familiar face stepped out of the trees, it was his music teacher, and his father's first love, Luyu. " Lu..." he began, stopping himself, pausing for a moment, before beginning again. " Luyu. I guess it's not surprising that you of all people would find me here." he said, looking back down at the ground, smiling sadly. He wasn't the only one affected by his father's death, she too, felt sorrow in her heart, though how much her sorrow compared to his, he didn't know.
"Alex..." he heard her say softly, as he looked up and over at her, he saw her square her shoulders and step forward, he could see the streaks left by tears on her face, she too, had been crying, just as he had been minutes ago. A ring on her finger shone in the sunlight, it was very beautiful, and no doubt, it had been given to her by his father. "Are you alright?" It was hard to say. Was he alright? He didn't know. " I...I don't know." he replied, looking back down at the ground.
Physically, he was fine. Emotionally however, that was an entire different story. He had felt like his heart was torn in two, the only person he had ever admired and respected was gone, proving that no matter how strong you are, you're only human. " I....I really don't know anymore." Truth rang in his words, he didn't know what to do. The only other person who shared his blood was Kyoko, and he himself didn't know where she was. " It's...hard to say." He smiled sadly, his eyes hidden by his hair.
He had so many questions that he never asked his father, only because he thought that his father would be around longer, much longer, and now he would never know the answers, or maybe not. There was someone else he knew that could answer his questions. " You...you knew my father when you were younger, right?" he suddenly asked, the realization hitting him like a brick wall. " What was he like, when he was younger?" Luyu, the only person here that he could ask, and know for sure that she was telling the truth.
He moved over on the bench, giving her room to sit down if she wanted, all the while, his eyes were still hidden, the only sign that showed he was still sad, was his sad smile. No tears would betray his expression. " Please, tell me. I want to know...what my father was like when he was younger. Please." he said, almost begging her. He had to know, it was now or never.

The way he stumbled over her name broke Luyu's heart all the more, if that was even possible. Until this moment, seeing the sad smile upon the oh so familiar face, the woman had not realized she had any heart left. She yearned to reach out and embrace him, to tell him it would be alright. The problem was, Luyu herself didn't know if it really would be alright. Earlier that day she had lost control of her Qi for the first time since discovering it, nearly tearing down the history wing. Then, moments before coming here, she had lost control of it again. The woman was slowly beginning to realize just how unglued she was.
" I...I don't know." Alex's voice called out to her. Luyu's delicate ears could pick up emotions from a voice, for sound was what she had spent the last decade studying and trying to understand. She could hear angst and a sad sense of resolve.
" I....I really don't know anymore. It's...hard to say." Alex looked down and his sad smile returned. Though she could no longer see his eyes, the woman didn't need to. She could hear everything she needed, not in his words but in his tonal inflections. He was no longer the confident boy who had been in her classroom. Alex was hurting, it seemed, as badly as Luyu was, but in a different way. Losing a father was different than losing a lover.
" You...you knew my father when you were younger, right? What was he like, when he was younger?" Her younger years with Kane was the last thing that Luyu wanted to talk about. Thinking about being so happy with him only made the hurt worse, she truly wanted to sit in silence and brood. She knew, though, that talking about him would be healthy. It would help in the grieving process, as she had heard many times today. Walking to the bench, Luyu sat down beside Alex. " Please, tell me. I want to know...what my father was like when he was younger. Please."
The woman looked over and heard more than saw the desperation. Kane must have never spoken to his children of his younger years. The woman's dark eyes began to fill with the tears that never seemed to leave as she studied his sad face. He looked so much like his father.
"Well, for starters," she began softly, "he looked just like you do." Luyu reached up and brushed the hair out of his face in a motherly fashion. She smiled at him, though the tears slipped down her already tear-stained cheeks. "Only his jaw was covered in scars and he wore silly contacts that made his eyes silver." Luyu paused to chuckle. The laughter felt good, though it made her want to follow it up with a load of sobs. She held them back, though, for Alex.
"The first time we met," She continued, "I found him cutting class in a tree. I joined him, of course, and we started talking. We didn't trust eachother at first," Luyu smiled as she spoke, remembering. Kane had been such a happy teenager, though he kept it hidden when around everyone but her. She kept telling Alex of the first time they had met, of how he had let her unwrap and rewrap the bandages until she had it to a T.
While she was talking, Luyu's arm slipped around Alex's shoulders, though he was four inches taller than she was. The woman continued to tell him of when she had first asked to meet Akuma, confused about who he really was, and Kane had laughed at her. She had vowed to never speak to him again due to his laughter, though he found his way around that.
"Your father won my heart right away, Alex. To me he was fun and silly, my complete opposite." The tears had continued the whole time she was talking and they were still flowing. It seemed her once dry eyes had found more moisture to get rid of. "Would you like to hear about our first date?" She laughed, then, suddenly remembering something else, "Or perhaps about when he had started the guardians?"
Though it hurt to talk about Kane, Luyu knew it was good. She wanted to tell Alex as much as she could about him, sharing the memories of his father seemed the right thing to do. The beautiful woman knew that somewhere, Kane was smiling down on them.

Alex looked straight at Luyu, his own eyes filled with desperation as some of his hair covered his eyes, he was desperate to know something, anything about his father. He was no longer the confident boy he was when he first walked into her classroom, grief can do that to a person, especially heart-wrenching grief. To his relief, she finally conceded and spoke, though he could tell she didn't want to talk about him at first, for tears appeared in her eyes. "Well, for starters, he looked just like you do."
That was not surprising, he was his son after all. He watched as she reached out, and brushed his hair out of his face, almost motherly, and though she smiled, tears once again ran down her face. It must be incredibly difficult for her to talk about his father, especially when Alex himself looked liked his father in miniature. "Only his jaw was covered in scars and he wore silly contacts that made his eyes silver." she continued, pausing to laugh, as Alex couldn't help by smile as well, which helped take away some of the grief.
"The first time we met, I found him cutting class in a tree. I joined him, of course, and we started talking. We didn't trust each other at first," Well that was natural. Though knowing his father, he eventually would trust her, emphasis on eventually. She continued to tell him how his father had been a happy teenager, but showing it to no one except her, how he let her unwrap and re-wrap the bandages until she had it down perfectly. All the time she was telling him all this, she had slipped her arm around his shoulders, even though he was four inches taller than her, but at this point, Alex didn't care.
She then continued on, telling him how she asked about Akuma, " Akuma..." Alex thought, that name, it sounded very familiar, but he couldn't quite figure out why. Shaking it off, he heard her say that his father laughed at her when she had been confused about who Akuma was. She then said she'd vow never to speak to him because of the laugh, but not surprisingly, his father found a way around it. "Your father won my heart right away, Alex. To me he was fun and silly, my complete opposite." He looked at her, watching the tears flow down her face, but no tears ever crossed his face, he had cried all his tears already.
"Would you like to hear about our first date? Or perhaps about when he had started the guardians?" At that question, Alex stiffened, the Guardians? He didn't know what that was, but if it involved his father, he definitely wanted to know. " The...Guardians." he replied, relaxing, looking at her again. " The Guardians...what is it? And why was it created in the first place?" Alex asked, a puzzled expression on his face, he had only heard the name, once, and even then, he was too young to understand.
- Flashback -
A young boy made his way back to his room after using the bathroom. He rubbed his sleepy eyes, and had his hand on the doorknob when he noticed a light shining from his father's room. Seeing no one around, he crept silently to the door, and immediately heard a voice, his father's. " ....not fail. Everything has been taken care of. I made sure myself that security will be as tight as it can possibly be. As the head, I will make sure of it. Even if something happens, the Guardians will be there to ensure that it doesn't spread into anything serious. Okay? Alright then."
The boy heard footsteps, and immediately dashed back to his room, turning the knob and closing the door quietly behind him. As he stood breathing hard against his closed door, he heard a quiet click. Opening his own door a little bit, the boy poked his head out, and saw that his father's door had closed. Closing his door again, the boy walked to his bed and climbed in, wondering what it was his father was talking about, and the name, the Guardians, it resonded in his head. " The Guardians..."
- Present -
So far, he only had a small bit of the puzzle that was his father's life, he needed more to complete it. And more he would get, even though it almost tore and wrenched his heart apart to remember his father, but he had to know. No, he didn't have to, he wanted to know. That made all the difference. He barely knew anything about his father, and this was the only oppotunity he saw to find out anything about him, no matter how trivial it was, he wanted to know.

Luyu's eyes rested on Alex Hikari. So, he didn't know who the guardians were. The woman was suddenly uncertain if it would be right for her to tell him something that his father had obviously taken pains to keep from him. She supposed it didn't matter, though, as long as she stuck to what she knew about them, which wasn't an incredible lot. After all, she had been absent from Kane for almost 20 years and during that time had taken a leave from the guardians.
"Well," she began softly, "I'll tell you about them then. As much as I know." Luyu grinned at him softly. "I was there when your father created the Guardians, at PHS 253, in Seattle, Washington. He had created it originally to protect other students from harm and to keep our psychotic teachers in line." She laughed softly, remembering, "We went to a school very much like this one. I was there due to a criminal record and he was there for a reason we never spoke of."
The smile had paused as she realized she never knew why Kane had been at PHS 253. She pushed that back, though. She did know why he had been there; to meet her.
"He started it by dressing in the most ridiculous costume. A tight bluish-gray bodysuit with a wooden wolves head, a long mane of silvery hair resting on his back." She thought back, to when he had first come to her like that. He had sent notes out to students he knew, asking them all to meet. She hadn't known it was him at first, but the moment that Kane had shown up and taken her arm, she knew. As Luyu remembered, she recounted it to Alex.
"He insisted that I, too, have a costume, so I became The Songbird, for I dearly loved music, though I had not yet discovered my Qi." The tears had stopped, though her eyes were still moist. Luyu had decided not to fight them, otherwise she would be struggling to speak over sobs. It was easier, she knew, to just let them flow. They would stop when it was time.
"I never got as into it as he did, though after that we only had a few months together before he dissapeared." Luyu's smile dissapeared. That had been a bleak time, a time she hated to remember. Kane had gone fighting in a tournament and won her the precious diamond necklace and bracelet she wore now. It had put him in the hospital. She closed her eyes, forcing away the painful memories. Luyu hoped that Alex did not inquire about his father's dissapearance from her life. It was too hard.
"He basically ran around helping people, Alex. He had a good heart, he always did. He spent a lot of time in the city, too, going to clubs and establishing connections. He didn't think I knew about it, but I did. He went to a lot of fighting clubs, winning more for his honor than for anything else. I never met anyone like your father, that is until I came here and re-met him."

After what seemed like forever, but in reality was only a few minutes, Luyu spoke. "Well, I'll tell you about them then. As much as I know." Alex guessed that she knew, some, but not a whole lot of what the Guardians were. She grinned at Alex, and began. "I was there when your father created the Guardians, at PHS 253, in Seattle, Washington. He had created it originally to protect other students from harm and to keep our psychotic teachers in line. We went to a school very much like this one. I was there due to a criminal record and he was there for a reason we never spoke of." Alex didn't know why his father went to that school either, all he knew was, his father wanted to get away from his father and mother, Alex's grandparents.
"He started it by dressing in the most ridiculous costume. A tight bluish-gray bodysuit with a wooden wolves head, a long mane of silvery hair resting on his back." That was his father? It sounded like something he would do, always standing out of the crowd. Alex couldn't help but shake his head in mild exasperation. "He insisted that I, too, have a costume, so I became The Songbird, for I dearly loved music, though I had not yet discovered my Qi." So she hadn't found out about her Qi, but Alex could tell she really loved music, after all, she was the music teacher her, in this school, or prison, as he heard most of the students call it.
"I never got as into it as he did, though after that we only had a few months together before he disappeared." His father had disappeared? That was like him, even before Alex received the news of his father's death, he had disappeared in the night, and neither Alex nor Kyoko knew where he had gone. The next thing, he had died. Alex however, didn't feel like inquiring as too why his father disappeared from Luyu's life in a flash, that made him feel like he was being nosy, all he wanted was to know about his father, nothing more, nothing less.
"He basically ran around helping people, Alex. He had a good heart, he always did. He spent a lot of time in the city, too, going to clubs and establishing connections. He didn't think I knew about it, but I did. He went to a lot of fighting clubs, winning more for his honor than for anything else. I never met anyone like your father, that is until I came here and re-met him." That was his father, helping others out. fighting, and winning for his honor. " There will never be anyone like him." Alex said quietly, and he knew in his heart that no matter how much he looked like him, he would and will never be, Kane Hikari. He was Alex Hikari, the son of the late Kane Hikari. That was all that mattered, now that he knew something about his father, some of the questions he had that he thought would go unanswered had been answered, but there was still one question, one very important question, that Alex still wondered about.
" Luyu." he said, sounding very serious. " There's something else I want to know. How did he die. How did my father, Kane Hikari, die? He left one night without a word, and the next minute, I find out he's dead, but no one told me how he died. You were with him, weren't you? Tell me, I need to know, or I'll never be satisfied." It was a touchy subject, Alex knew, but it had to be asked, or no answers would ever surface. "Please."

Luyu had looked into the darkness during her recounting. Every once in a while Alex's expression would shift and he would look even more like his father that the moment prior. She had had to turn her eyes away for talking had started to become difficult when all she could see was her dead fiance.
The woman looked back, though, when Alex spoke her name. "There's something else I want to know. How did he die. How did my father, Kane Hikari, die? He left one night without a word, and the next minute, I find out he's dead, but no one told me how he died. You were with him, weren't you? Tell me, I need to know, or I'll never be satisfied."
Moving her arm from around his shoulders, she folded them in her lap. This was something she had hoped to never again speak about, but always knew that one day she would be asked.
Kane Hikari had been killed by the Doctor. It had been an accident, of course. Kane had seen the Doc running from safety back towards GlaDOs, the monster machine they had been trying to destroy. The Doc had already set up his own safe return, having thought that Kane was safely with Luyu, but things had not worked out according to plan.
Thinking his friend was in danger, Kane had gone after the Doc. His process of escape had already been activated, and though he had tried to save him, Kane had been killed in the explosion.
Closing her eyes, the pain seemed to rush back. Alex was right, she had been there. She had been the last person that Kane had touched, the last person he had kissed, the last person he had smiled at. Her heart began to weep, as the tears streamed down her face once more.
"He died saving the world." She said in a whisper, though she knew Alex would be able to hear her. "He was killed by a machine that we, the Guardians, were going after. It had stolen some weapons and was going to wipe out humanity." Luyu's fragile hand lifted, wiping away the tears. "He was caught in the final explosion."
She hadn't told him who had initiated the explosion, or why he had been so close to it. Those were things she really didn't think he should know, and she didn't know if he had a pre-established relationship with the Doc or not. So if the Doc wanted Alex to know it had been he who had initiated the explosion, the Doc could tell him.

Alex felt Luyu's arm move off his shoulders, and saw her fold her hands in her lap. Her expression clearly stated this was something she had hoped never to speak of, but Alex, he wanted to know, he didn't have a right, so to speak, but it was after all, about his father, he had to know. He saw her close her eyes, he felt ashamed for asking her something so painful to reaccount, but his curiosity had gotten the better of him, and he stared at the ground.
"He died saving the world." He heard her whisper, making him look up at her, surprise on his face. "He was killed by a machine that we, the Guardians, were going after. It had stolen some weapons and was going to wipe out humanity. He was caught in the final explosion." Alex turned his head to stare straight ahead, he tried to speak, but no words came out, only a deep breath. " That's how he died?" he said quietly, his hands clutching his knees, " He...went out like that? That's...so like him." he continued, a small but sad smile on his face.
" How like you dad...Dying to save the world. But in doing so, you left behind people who loved and cared about you, and no amount of love can or will bring you back..." he said sadly, his head bowed. " Going out with a bang...You're so stupid..." he muttered the last part, saying it quietly, but he had no doubt Luyu could hear what he said. " But I'm happy to call you my dad, no matter what."
" Luyu." he then said, looking up at her, " Thank you for telling me. I don't know what caused the explosion, but I think I'll get the answers from The Doctor, he was the one who told me of my father's death. I have a feeling he's tied to this more than you were, and he holds the answers to the rest of the questions I have. I can't imagine how painful it was for you to tell me this, but I'm happy you did. At least now, I know how he...left this world." Alex said, smiling at her, a genuine smile. " His death...affected you just as much as me, didn't it?" he asked, but he already knew the answer.

Luyu could hear the boy's astonishment at her words. " That's how he died? He...went out like that? That's...so like him." Opening her eyes, she looked at the boy beside her. She saw the way he clutched his knees and the sad smile on his face. Seeing that last living remnant that the woman had of Kane in such a state made her want to weep all the more.
" How like you dad...Dying to save the world. But in doing so, you left behind people who loved and cared about you, and no amount of love can or will bring you back... Going out with a bang...You're so stupid..." Luyu listened to what he was saying, though it wasn't directed at her. She knew that they were meant for Kane, the things that Alex wished he could say to his father. " But I'm happy to call you my dad, no matter what." The faucet turned on once more, and the woman began to weep. Alex's words were beautiful in the most mournful way possible. She wished that Kane was here to hear them, to know and understand the love held for him by his son.
Luyu took comfort in the fact that she believed he really was able to hear them, looking down on them from the heavens. She had prayed at his death that her ancestors would take him in as one of them, invite him to their great fire that every member of her tribe hoped one day to be invited to.
" Luyu." She looked at him, wiping away the tears, " Thank you for telling me. At least now, I know how he...left this world." Looking into the boy's face, she decided that he would be alright. He would confront the doctor, it seemed, and learn the facts of his father's death. Alex smiled at her and was suddenly Kane Hikari 20 years ago. She yearned to take him in her arms, for he had the same smile as his father.
" His death...affected you just as much as me, didn't it?" Luyu didn't take her eyes away from his face, "Yes, Alex, but in a different way." She paused, making a futile attempt to regain her composure, "He was your father, your protector. He was my . . . should have been my husband." Luyu's fists clenched at the sudden rage she felt coursing through her small body. Long ago the woman had accepted the fact that life wasn't fair, but she couldn't help but think. . . Kane's death just wasn't fair.

Alex, looking at Luyu, smiled sadly as he saw her cry at what he said. He couldn't help but take small comfort that his father, although not around anymore, could hear what he had said. He couldn't help but notice Luyu continued looking at him, but he didn't mind, as Luyu answered his question. "Yes, Alex, but in a different way. He was your father, your protector. He was my . . . should have been my husband."
" Yes, and you would've been...my stepmother." Alex replied, not that he hated it or anything, if anything, he would've liked having Luyu as his stepmother, he hadn't exactly been close to his mother before she died. " Truth be told," he said, still looking down, " I wouldn't have mind having you as a stepmother, after all, we both like music, though I'm not as passionate as you are."
Looking down, he saw from the corner of his eye, much to his surprise, Luyu's fists clench up, like she was angry at something. " Is something wrong?" he asked, though he had a feeling it had something to do with his father's death, which was too early for someone like him.

" Is something wrong?" Luyu realized she was still tense from her anger, though his previous words had soothed her. He wouldn't have minded having her as a stepmother? She couldn't have imagined hearing anything better than those words, momentarily forgetting the pain of her loss.
"Nothing's wrong, Alex." Luyu said softly, pulling him into her arms. "I wouldn't have minded having you and Kyoko as stepchildren, either." Tears leaked from her eyes and down her cheeks softly, "It would have been an honor."
Releasing him, Luyu brushed away her tears and felt slightly abashed at having embraced him in such a manner. The woman smiled at Alex, though, and what was left of her heart warmed. "If you wish, you may still think of me as your stepmother. I'm afraid I'll always be attached to you and your sister."

"Nothing's wrong, Alex." Alex couldn't help but feel something was wrong, but at that moment, Luyu pulled him into her arms, surprising him, but at the same time, gave him a new feeling, what was this feeling? And it hit him. It was the feeling of a mother's love, to be held lovingly, something he had not experienced you could say, ever.
"I wouldn't have minded having you and Kyoko as stepchildren, either." Alex couldn't see, but he could tell that Luyu was crying tears of happiness. "It would have been an honor." " Yeah, it would've been a pleasure, to have you as my stepmother..." he said softly.
Releasing him, Alex saw her brush away her tears and looking...slightly abashed? Was it because of the hug? Alex didn't know, but he saw her smile at him, as he smiled back at her and he knew that Kane Hikari, his father, was shining through him, an exact image of his father, albeit younger. "If you wish, you may still think of me as your stepmother. I'm afraid I'll always be attached to you and your sister." "I'd like that." he replied, looking down and smiling sadly.
"I never knew my mother well, so I never really felt a mother's love before." As Alex sat there, he knew it was time. " Luyu." he said, looking serious now. "I'm going to find The Doctor, and get the answers I want. Maybe later, I'll see you...in the music room? At Kane's Floor?" he said, sounding slightly hopeful. " Until then, I'll see you later." And with that, Alex stood up, and walked away, to find The Doctor, to find the answers to his questions, once and for all.
