Mat walked down the hall towards a history class in which he was supposed to meet Kane's lover, Luyu, he was to tell her about how Kane was dead. He never really liked Kane, and with the new knowledge Mat had found out that the torture and loss of his family for five years was due to him, it only made the hate grow. But he was dead so the hate became rotted and hollow to leave only pain and regret.
He gave a sigh as he pushed a hand through his crimson colored hair, letting his clover green eyes become somewhat glazed as he thought on what to do now. Should he tell Emma about how Kane had been the one to cause this? Should he resign as to have nothing to do with this school anymore? Or should he even care and just go on with how things were? He didn't know the answer to any of them yet as his emotions were confusing and swirled together to comprehend anything rationally for those questions.
The one thing he did know was that he had to tell Luyu about Kane's death, he knew he had to as he would hope someone would tell Emma he was dead if he ever did die. He came to the room he was supposed to meet her in and used his MAC to unlock the door and touched the door handle. He felt vibrations on it and pulled back.
"What in the name of the Creator?" He asked himself out loud as he touched the door with a careful hand, he felt the vibrations through the door too. What was he supposed to do now? Just walk away or get Solaris or enter? He knew it was Luyu but the question or how to go about this was what he was wondering about.
He gave a deliberate breath and squeezed the handle and opened up the door. The silence inside the room was unnerving, it was like the silence before the battle. Everything was enhanced and made even the slightest breath sound like an Boeing 747 screaming over your head by 300 feet.
He gritted his teeth and closed the door leaving him back in the hall. His ears rung, it hurt, quite a bit, maybe enough to drop his hearing a few points but he had gotten out of there quickly so he doubted it. When his ears popped he gave a sigh of relief and pulled something out of a pack at his side.
He always carried this around in case students who fought decided to make a catastrophe of the halls. He picked up a few small ball shaped items and put them back picking up a small pipe and putting it back checking to find the right one. He finally found one that looked somewhat like a pear. He grinned an a newly formed idea in his head and decided to get a laugh out of it.
He put his hand on the door again and put the pin in his mouth, clamping down on it with his teeth. He pushed the door open and pulled the pin, letting it hang on his canines as he threw it and it landed right under her seat. He quickly shut the door and waited for the two small thumbs he found feel through the ground.
The grenade went off with a loud thump, it was a concussion grenade that was made of plastic so the damage would be nothing but some sore body parts. The kinetic force would easily knock her out if she still was sitting there. Thats when he heard the 2nd thump. Yup, she was out like a light, probably for a good 10-30 minutes.
He stood up and touched the door. The vibrations had stopped, good, he walked over to Luyu and felt the pulse. Still strong and her breath was still easy. She would be fine. Mat then took out a piece of paper and a pencil and wrote down what he was supposed to say. He didn't like writing it but it would at least somewhat sooth her pain.
'Dear Dr. Kodiak,
We regret to inform you that Kane is dead, evidently during the skirmish with GladoS, Solaris fired an Ion Cannon on him and Kane was engulfed in the explosion. I give you my deepest condolences and wish you God's speed to recovery with this heart ache.
If you are now wondering if the school will be shut down without him, it won't, I will be taking over the role as Principal and The Doctor will take the role as Vice, so you are welcome to stay or go if you wish. We will understand but I will once again give you my condolences over this tragety.
Sincirly, Matrim, the newly instated Principal of St. Paragon's Secondary school.'
He didn't like writing it, he didn't care for Kane at all but it would at least give her some relief in knowing he is dead. He then put the note to her forehead and taped it there to hold and walked out the door. What he had been issued to do was done, now he had to go on his own to tell the person he cared most about who had taken him to be gone for so long.
