The Doctor made it as far as he couldn't go any further without setting off alarms. His sonic screwdriver was in his pocket, but he left it there. Solaris wasn't someone he needed to sneak up on, nor was he someone he could sneak up on. The guy was paranoid. And who could blame him? Somebody shoved his Soul into a computer.
"Solaris, I'm here to do that check up I promised. I'd let myself in, but somethin tells me that may just annoy you...." The Doctor said rather loudly, knowing full well Solaris was watching.
"I even brought my stethoscope," The Doctor said raising his screwdriver for any of the camera's to pick up, "And if you're real nice you might get a lollipop at the end! Come on! What do you say?"

The Doctor was a joker, that was a good thing, most of the engineers around here were idiots, they didn't take pride in their jobs, which was at best, incredibly annoying. He'd watched the Doc go through all the required securities...until he hit the Sigma security corridor. Calling to his "guards" the security gates were unlocked, although the procedures were already completed personally. Doctor wasn't carrying weapons, and the screwdriver, while not technically authorized, could pass.
The speakers flared to life as Solaris started speaking, who was now standing by the master control console on the third floor of the containment room. "Alright..." He chuckled once. "Yes, it would have likely annoyed me. However..." He smiled and shook his head. "I'll be more so if I don't get my lollypop eh?"

The Doctor walked in, eyeing the guards. Luckily they were all very easy to shut down in case they went rogue on Solaris. He looked around walking straight towards Solaris, but turning in circles getting an eye on every inch. "This technology is too advanced.... it's way ahead of it's time. Solaris, who made this? Who created all this? And who made your soul part of it?"
The Doctor walked in, eyeing every part of the room. The technology was new to him, at least the style. He couldn't pinpoint who advanced this technology so far or how, his only explanation was that this technology was to be kept secret until it became available.
"Give me the grand tour...."

Solaris furled his lip some. This was the first time an outsider, besides the engineers had ever come into the core containment facility. It was here that Solaris' synthetic Qi powers were at his absolute fullest; in fact, enough so that he could distort reality...shift space, and on a lighter note, make himself fully solid.
He looked to the Doctor who seemed to stand in awe. "This technology is too advanced.... it's way ahead of it's time. Solaris, who made this? Who created all this? And who made your soul part of it?"
Looking down, he scratched his head. "To be honest, I don't know the answer to each of those questions, but I can explain my own theories behind each." Solaris explained. He started walking from the main controls to the actual containment floor. "From what I know, Project: Symbiotic was the military solution to the perfect automated system." He stopped and waved his hand, opening the blast doors to the containment floor, walking in. "The military doesn't like sacrificing soldiers, but they have no problem with civilians."
Shaking his head, he continued on. "My soul was stripped from my crippled body after my high school years, after I had died at the age of seventeen from a rare degenerative genetic disease. The process they used is unknown to me...but I believe they used something, my guess is artifical Qi, it kills most everyone, but those who 'survive' per se are used for experiments. I just happened to be part of this one. How they got the technology is unknown to me as well....here."
Solaris got close to the huge metal pillar in the middle of the room, pressing several buttons on the holographic panel close to it. Immediately after, a small panel lifted, and if you peered inside, you could see the fluctuating orange ball of plasma that was Solaris. "For all intents and purposes, that...is me." He said, pointing at the core.
((I have more, but I need to let you respond.))

The Doctor dropped to his knees. It wasn't possible..... that was his core? The Doctor knew what would happen, he didn't have to run the numbers yet still, he pointed his screwdriver while on his knees, reading it.
"If this were to be removed....." The Doctor's face went blank, pale, and then finally he punched the ground, getting up onto his feet. "Solaris, I'm going to find who did this all to you, I promise you that."
The Doctor realized what might happen if he were to leave. He knew he couldn't shut down Solaris, not without becoming the bad wolf. Not without dying. So he figured he'd save that option for if the core were ever removed.
"Please," The Doctor said, "Continue on....."

Solaris just kind of stood there for a moment as he spoke himself, listening to his whispered statement. "If this were to be removed....." This was a depressing part of the explanation. "If that core is removed improperly, without being placed into proper containment, the resulting quantum fusion detonation will result in a yield of anywhere between 1.5 and 3 gigatons of TNT. 50 times greater than any known nuclear weapon." This wasn't a nice prospect, so he moved on.
"I must thank you for your assistance as well." He started walking around a little more. "More so about the computer now." He said, watching some panels. "This station generates terawatts of energy per hour, and there is a massive battery elsewhere on campus. The computer itself uses much of this power, and coupled with the synthetic Qi...the computer becomes what we know as a 'supercalculator.' This thing is supposedly powerful enough to alter physics to a degree." Solaris demonstrated quickly as an engineer was waiting for an open elevator to the second floor. A distortion of such, waves could be seen as the worker, with Solaris' moving hand moved to the level of the second floor.
"Outside the tower, it usually takes nanites to do that. I havn't tried bending space yet...and I'm not sure I will, too dangerous in my opinion.

"I'd say so....." The Doctor began to say then scanned the area with his Sonic Screwdriver. He was surprised to see the results. "Actually... It's not as dangerous as you'd think....."
The Doctor scanned everything with his Sonic Screwdriver. The technology was outstanding. It made the Doctor uneasy, but at the same time excited for what the possibilities could be. He knew when the world ended, and it wasn't anytime soon. Not by a long shot. So he knew that if this core were to be removed, that would be the end of all this technology. The Doctor would have to correct everything, and in the end he'd die.... again.
"If you don't mind me asking, how far away can you be from the core without losing your nanite form?" The Doctor was curious as to whether or not Solaris new what the exact distance was.

"Actually... It's not as dangerous as you'd think....." How he came to this conclusion was an interest to him. He hadn't been able to figure it out...so...how come him? Another question to be answered. But meanwhile, he'd moved to scanning the entire place. The Doctor seemed rather excited to do it as well...always a pleasure of course...as long as it wasn't someone he hated, or a student.
"If you don't mind me asking, how far away can you be from the core without losing your nanite form?"
Solaris turned and stared over as he scanned. "That's another good question, one I actually know the answer to." He turned a little and created a holographic scale model of the school with several circles, indicating diameters that...changed. "Each of these circles with numbers is rated from 1-10, based on the difficulty of maintaining a nanite form. As you can see, they shift from day to day based on fluctuations in the core and among other things, myself." He smiled. "I might be an AI, but I'm also still subject to human changes, sort of like this one. Another caveat...if there is some kind of amplifer around, that helps. Holographic projectors also tend to help my form stay intact much longer, and with greater integrity."

"Well, I've got a lot of information from that. Let's just say I have a way to make you able to go anywhere you want as long as you're with me." The Doctor reviewed everything, and kept scanning whatever he could with his sonic screwdriver to get the information clearly.
The Doctor thought about everything and then finally spoke up. "You were once a child, then some unknown military sect put you in this gigantic machine and happened to stick you in a school?"
The Doctor did some thinking and decided he knew his next question. "Can you question Kane? Are you capable of not trusting Kane or anyone else at this school? Try... try and question them.... can you?"
The Doctor had to know, he needed to know just how far the programming went, "Do you have free will?"

Solaris had a spark of his interest as The Doctor mentioned this little...fact he hoped it was. "Well, I've got a lot of information from that. Let's just say I have a way to make you able to go anywhere you want as long as you're with me." He turned over and tilted his head. "Well, that would certainly be a plus for me." Once again, Solaris was back to watching the diagram shift as the energy levels in the core fluctuated.
"You were once a child, then some unknown military sect put you in this gigantic machine and happened to stick you in a school?" The first two assumptions are correct...as for being stuck in a school...I have a theory that involves Kane...I don't know how he might of got a hold of me unfortunately."
"Can you question Kane? Are you capable of not trusting Kane or anyone else at this school? Try... try and question them.... can you? Do you have free will?"
That was it. Solaris stopped, and the lights shifted a little bit in response to his mood. Furling his lip, and staring down at the deck, he asked questions back. "What is the definition of free will? I mean, I've been bound to this contraption...it's like a really big prison to me. Sure there are boons of course, but I'm so restricted to what I can do. And as for Kane..." He shook his head. "I trust him...but..." He looked back up into the Doc's eyes. "That machine of his is dangerous, I can feel it."

The Doctor decided. It was in his head already. And for once in his life, he was quiet, he thought to himself. Not out loud under his breath but to himself. Should someone remove Solaris' core, the Doctor would have to save the world by absorbing the time vortex into his body to control and manipulate time and space.... he could then fix it. Give Solaris his body back, destroy Kane's machines, the only thing was. He had to remember Jack.
"The Face of Beau..." The Doctor said under his breath, his eyes darting left to right as he was thinking in the back of his mind, Jack, also known as the face of beau, was brought back to life when Rose absorbed the time vortex. All she said was 'live' and Jack lived alright. He lived for billions of years until he was a giant head with telepathic abilities that nobody has ever seen, including teleporting anywhere.
The Doctor decided, if it came to it, if he had to do it. He would give Solaris a body. But if he couldn't manage that, he would fuse Solaris with the TARDIS, making him the AI, giving him enough power from the Time Vortex to create a solid body anywhere at anytime. But that was as long as he could seperate the soul from every bit of coding, and the Doctor would really have to come to trust Solaris to do that.
The Doctor realized that everyone had their time, but Solaris didn't seem that way. He needed to live, the Doctor knew this for some reason he couldn't place his finger on.
"Well then, that makes two of us," The Doctor finally responded to what Solaris had said about Kane's machine, "The talk of a 'Sister' and the brother he still has both seem potentially dangerous. Espicially if either of them goes rogue and hacks into your systems. Soul or no soul, I don't want to know what happens if a potential megalomaniacal living computer gets a hold of your core."
The Doctor didn't feel like thinking about it, "So then, I'm going to add some defenses. I don't know what kind of defenses to put up without scanning the potential threat, but scanning the machine downstairs seems like a no-go and I have yet to come across the other one he spoke of. So until such time I'll just put up a lot of anti-hack programming that will alert the TARDIS the very second anyone tries to do anything."
The Doctor scanned the closest computer with his sonic screwdriver. The job was done in merely seconds. "Believe me when I say, in all my years there have been a few exceptional people who have had some horrible things happen to them. You are by far one of the worst."

"The Face of Beau..." What, who, where was that? Solaris glaced at The Doctor to see him in a tranical state, in deep thought. What was he thinking about, what in God's name could he be so worked up about right now. There wasn't anything Solaris percieved right now as special or out of the ordinary...so what the hell was it?
"Well then, that makes two of us, the talk of a 'Sister' and the brother he still has both seem potentially dangerous. Espicially if either of them goes rogue and hacks into your systems. Soul or no soul, I don't want to know what happens if a potential megalomaniacal living computer gets a hold of your core."
Captain Obvious to the rescue, but you know, people were just that way when they were genuinely worried about someone...which was a nice boon in this case. "Yeah, I suppose so." He simply said.
"So then, I'm going to add some defenses.
Well now...it's not like Solaris needed anything else to slow him down...the defense up already was more than military grade encrypted. "I don't see why this is necessary." He mentioned as the Doc screwdrived the controls. "This place is so proxied, firewalled and actively filtered I don't know how I can even move honestly."
"Believe me when I say, in all my years there have been a few exceptional people who have had some horrible things happen to them. You are by far one of the worst."
At about this moment, Solaris simply stopped talking and looked down to the ground. He wasn't ashamed of what he'd become...he enjoyed it on occasion. But sometimes, a little understanding was all it took.

The Doctor was going to hack into Solaris' program and set off every sprinkler and open every door to the school for 2 seconds to show him just how weak his defenses were to him, and what that would mean to a machine just as advanced as Solaris himself, but he decided not to. Solaris seemed to take what he said.
"The truth is, I don't know if you will ever be human again. It's possible, but not within my power. There is also a way to give you a body, you would truly be alive, and for a very long time... but I don't call that human, it's a new species in itself." The Doctor stood up tall and looked at Solaris, who was looking down from what the Doctor had said earlier.
"But trust me when I say I know what it feels like to be alone. I'm the last of my species, and I'm over nine hundred years old, there is literally nobody out there like me. At least, I used to think that, but I look and I see your potential. Some day you will be greater then some robotic voice that says 'you've got mail' for these students."
Someday you'll be a time traveller. That's what the Doctor wanted to say. Some day, if the Doctor should ever die and be unable to regenerate a new body, he would want to die making Solaris the same breed as Jack... the face of beau.... who lived for a billion years travelling back and forth through time.
Of course.... this wouldn't be for a long long time. Luckily, Solaris and the Doctor were two of the same in that they could never run short on time. Hopefully the Doctor could find a way for them to travel together. So much potential in this kid. Which is astronomical considering he didn't even have a body.

He'd stayed silent so far in The Doctor's speaking, listening intently to what he had to say. For much of it, he was speaking from pure wisdom, and what seemed to be first hand experiences...it was reassuring there was someone in this world that even compared...much less...
Surpassed him. In knowledge at least.
"The truth is, I don't know if you will ever be human again. It's possible, but not within my power. There is also a way to give you a body, you would truly be alive, and for a very long time... but I don't call that human, it's a new species in itself."
No. And more rejection followed. Solaris rebuked in a whisper, adding his own beliefs. "No...this is where you are wrong. I AM human. I might not have a true body, but I have the essentials..." He pointed to his core. "And honestly...I don't need new flesh and blood, I've accepted what I am, that's good enough for me." For a computer, this would be out of character...but it was deemed necessary, Solaris wasn't just any computer.
Ah yes, another point. Solaris was by most emotional standards alone...set apart from his fleshy counterparts by hundreds of miles of power conduit, firewalls, and proxies...this place was as if a prison almost. But, there was something else. "I'm not totally alone I must say." He smiled and pointed to the third floor, where a small woman had been reading a few books. Solaris practically yelled in this sense. "I still have my sister!" He yapped sarcastically. Dressed in tribal clothing, and still bearing the same orange eyes as Solaris, Lunari peered down from the room and stuck her tongue out once, then disappeared once more. "This school won't be here forever, and provided something doesn't happen to me...I can live my life after."
"And I'm over nine hundred years old."
While in the middle of his sentence, this part clicked last. A pure shocker factor in a way. "Who are you...really then?" He asked simply. No way he was human if he was telling the truth.

"Like I said, the last of my species," The Doctor began, "I'm a Time Lord. I'm the last one now. There was a war... I was a soldier on the frontlines, I lead the war against the Daleks... and we thought we had won. Well, I thought we had won. It was the last great time war. I survived, and some Daleks had survived. To this day I don't know if they are all dead. It seems they keep popping up, but I think they are all dead now."
Good riddens.
"I'm just over 900 years old, I've lived plenty life times, and by that I mean I've died quite a number of times. Time Lords have this way of cheating death... but aside from that and our two hearts we are mostly just like you humans. We have emotions, common sense, and we have our corrupt population, or.... had." The Master was dead now, the Doctor reminded himself. He was in fact THE last Time Lord.
"And we have the technology and machinery to travel through time. That would be the TARDIS. In the wrong hands, it would be the end of everything, existence in this universe itself could be torn apart with it in the wrong hands. So with my old age I'm wondering if I should start considering what I should do with it if I were to die permanently. Personally I would hope to find somebody to take up my work at fixing the universal timeline with the knowledge I have, but so far I haven't found anyone like that."
The Doctor knew what he would do if he was on his last life. He knew Solaris was the number one candidate for it. Of course, that was just in case the Doctor was dying, and that would be the last resort. The Doctor then looked over to Solaris' sister expecting her to be a program they came up with, from his distance he scanned the Sonic Screwdriver to find she was in fact human.
"Oh, hello!" The Doctor called out.
