Riley walked along through the forest of trees, occasionally walking through a tree, since he wasn't paying attention. Ever since he arrived at 650, he had tried to find some answers, but so far, he got nothing. He wandered around the school grounds, he wasn't sure where to start really. The wind blew, the leaves fell, the sun shined, but no one could see Riley.
Well, there were perks to being a ghost, at least no one would bother you, the downside, you couldn't talk to anyone unless you possessed a person's body. Riley sighed, and stopped at a tree overlooking a small cliff. He leaned against the tree, his arms folded. Even if he did possess someone, suddenly asking the person he thought that would have information would probably be too freaked out to answer.
Riley didn't look like a typical ghost. Normally, when someone says the word ghost, you'd think of a spirit with a shape, but no legs. Riley looked nothing like that. He looked like a normal teenager, save for the fact he was transparent, and was wearing the exact same clothes he had worn when he died. That was another question he wanted to find out, how did he die? All he remembered was black, lots of black. Add that to the pile of questions he had.
He mentally pictured a worker throwing a box on top of an already immense pile of dusty boxes, dusting his hands off, and laughed quietly. " Good thing hardly anyone can see, otherwise they'd think they've gone crazy, actually, more like they've gone even more crazier, seeing a ghost is one thing, but a ghost talking to himself? That's even more nuttier."
He hoped that someone, anyone, could see him so maybe he could talk to them without having to possess someone's body. He had a feeling though, that someone was watching him, someone who could see and hear him. He turned around, forgetting he was a ghost, part his body went right through the tree, so he was standing there, half of his body in a tree, the other half visible. Real dramatic...

It was a rather nice day outside. The sun was high in the sky and there was a breeze that lightly caressed the leaves of the trees. Reira was very passionate about completeting this one sketch she had in mind and being outside only helped strengthen that fire.
Sitting with her back against a tree, she continued drawing. It was a sketch of a landscape in Paris that she woke up to every morning when she lived there. It was burned into her memory and as the days went by, she could feel herself forgetting it little by little. So before it was lost, she compelled herself to draw it.
After an hour or so of sitting outside, Reira's back was getting sore and she was starting to get chilly. Being in nothing but a white band shirt, a black plaid mini skirt, and her black knee high converse, with all her other acessories wasn't helping on the keeping warm part either.
Sketch is finished. I thought it was supposed to be warm out...why is it getting cold...unless...oh not here..
Putting away her sketch book in her book bag, she got up and began to walk away. Quite frankly she was in no mood to deal with a mindless spirit today. It was confirmed a spirit when she was able to see her breath.
She had only taken about three steps when she stopped dead in her tracks. Turning her head to look over her shoulder she saw a ghost. Only she could see this ghost perfectly fine..well the half that was visible at least.
Usually when I first see a particular spirit, they appear as shadow beings...why can I see every detail on this one? On him I mean... This is weird, nothing like this has happened before, interesting.
Reira had turned her body around to be facing the blonde boy completely. Curiosity took over.
"Are you going to stay stuck in that tree forever, or are you going to come and talk to me? That is why you chose to show yourself to me right, to talk to me?" she said with a small smile.

"Are you going to stay stuck in that tree forever, or are you going to come and talk to me? That is why you chose to show yourself to me right, to talk to me?" Stuck in that...oh no, oh no no no. Riley looked down, only to cringe in embarrassment. Half his body was in the tree. " Ah great..." he muttered, moving forward, now his entire body could be seen. " So you can see and hear me, that makes me happy." he said, after making sure no part of his body was stuck in somewhere. " Oh, I'm Riley, and you are?" he asked, after realizing he hadn't introduced himself yet.
He walked forward, so that he was standing close to the girl, but with enough space in between the both of them. " Hmm, as for the showing myself to you, well, I had a feeling someone around here could see ghosts, though I wasn't sure until now. Although I probably don't look like a typical ghost, I mean, if I wasn't transparent, people would probably think I'm a human." He folded his arms, it was true, he didn't look like the average ghost. Most ghosts are...shadowy, he on the other hand, was not, he did look like a regular person, excpet he didn't have to change his clothes, the clothes he was wearing now were the ones he had died in.
He took in the girl's appearance, she didn't look like someone who could talk to ghosts, but honestly, he didn't care. He finally knew there was someone that he could talk to, and that cheered him up. He noticed she was carrying a bag with her, and grinned sheepishly. " Oh, I hope I didn't interrupt anything with my err, sudden appearance." he said, sounding like he was apologizing. As he stood there, something struck him, this girl, if either one of her parents had gone to 253, maybe they knew his dad. It was a long shot, but Riley would wait until the girl answered, it would be rude to just throw out a bunch of questions all at once.

Reira managed to stifle her laugh at the apparent embarassed facial expression on the boys' face. It wasn't everyday she saw a spirit get himself trapped in a tree. In fact, it wasn't everyday she say a spirit quite like him. He was, she thought, quite cute and more then a small mystery.
"Of course I can see you. I can see all spirits if they chose to allow me to see them." She wasn't sure about the extents of her power, but she knew at least that she could talk, hear, see, and even feel spirits physically.Sometimes, if the spirit was powerful enough, she could even fell the emotions they were feeling. "Hello Riley, I'm Reira, it's very nice to meet you."
If Riley was still alive, Reira wouldn't have been so open and friendly with him. She was a little more reserved when it came to people, but with spirits she was perfectly fine. She was so used to them by now. After all, she had her whole life to get used to them.
"Your right you don't look like a typical ghost..err spirit. It's very strange..," she said with curiosity. Reira dropped her bag at her feet and began to circle him, looking him over. Once she was done examining him, she said. "But I'm glad your like this. It gets very boring talking to normal spirits. I'm also very happy you actually seem to have a personality!"
This is so different. But I like it, its interesting, I like interesting. I want to find out more about Riley. I hope this won't be the only encounter I have with him either. I'd very much like to see him again. I thought I had seen and talked to all the spirits there was...I guess I was wrong.
She laughed then. "Nope your not interrupting at all. So, did you need my help with something? Or needed to ask me something?"

"Of course I can see you. I can see all spirits if they chose to allow me to see them." If he wasn't talking to her right now, Riley would be dancing with joy. He mentally pictured a party in his head, and grinned inside. He was happy, very happy, and he was even more happy now that he knew the girl's name. "Hello Riley, I'm Reira, it's very nice to meet you." "Reira. That's a nice name." he said, tilting his head sideways, like he was thinking. " Please to meet you Reira." He looked at her expression she seemed to be, curious about him, not that he minded anyways, he'd be curious too if he saw a ghost that didn't look like a shadow.
"You're right you don't look like a typical ghost..err spirit. It's very strange..." she said, as he saw her drop her bag and cirlce around him, taking in his appearance. He stared as she examined him, " I didn't know I was this interesting." he joked, as she finished looking him over and spoke. "But I'm glad your like this. It gets very boring talking to normal spirits. I'm also very happy you actually seem to have a personality!" Hahaha, personality he had. " Of course I have a personality, it'd be very boring without one wouldn't it?" he replied laughing.
This was great. He was having fun, even though he was a ghost. He'd forgotten what it was like to talk to someone, it had been vey lonely and downright boring really. "Nope your not interrupting at all. So, did you need my help with something? Or needed to ask me something?" That was good, at least he didn't interrupt something important. As for the needing to ask something...well...
"Actually, there is something I do want to ask. Did either of your parents go to Public High School 253? I'm asking because my dad went there, and I'm trying to find out something." he quickly added the last sentence, if what he was asking was something Reira didn't want to talk about, he wouldn't push it. " But if you don't want to talk about it, it's okay too." Riley added, as much as he wanted to find out what happened, he also didn't want to drive away the first friend he had made since his becoming a ghost.

"Actually, there is something I do want to ask. Did either of your parents go to Public High School 253? I'm asking because my dad went there, and I'm trying to find out something."
Reira didn't answer right away. She didn't like talking about her mother, even if the subject wasn't directly related to her in particular, the mentioning of her name brought her to remember how much she missed her mother. Leaning against the a nearby tree, she answered with a slight smile.
"Yah, my mother attended 253 for a year or two. Back then she was known as Samara Marino. She dated Matrim Aldon and then Luke Gallagher."
I wonder if he knows who she is. Futher more, I wonder what it is that he wants to find out, and who his parent was at 253.
Regardless of ever knowing the answers to those questions, she would try to help him out as much as she could. It must be hard for him to not be able to pass over. Harder still by being lonely. Most spirits she knew were always lonely. She knew the feeling all too well.
"Does that help?"

Riley, much to his surprise and pleasure, received a response from Reira, after much thought. "Yah, my mother attended 253 for a year or two. Back then she was known as Samara Marino. She dated Matrim Aldon and then Luke Gallagher." Whoa, wait, back up. Matrim Aldon, as in Matrim Aldon, the Principal? Holy crap.
That fact surprised Riley, but what surprised him even more was that her mother knew Luke Gallagher, his father had met Luke before, and was friends with him, before they had parted ways. That was years ago, Riley didn't know much about it, and he didn't bother to pry into it, he actually left the subject alone, truth be told. Or maybe he was just lazy.
" Oh, you're probably wondering why I'm asking something like this." he realized, smacking his forehead like he was an idiot. " My dad, formally known as Jonathan Watanabe, went to 253, so I'm trying to find his old friends, since I know some of their kids go here." he explained to her. At least, that was his reason, which made sense, he guessed. If you know something, naturally you'd start with what you've got right?
"Does that help?" she asked him, and Riley nodded. " Well, I have something to go with, so it did help, thank you." he replied, smiling. " If you don't have anything else to do, want to stay and talk? I have all the time in the world, especially for you."

"Jonathan Watanabe? Hmm his names doesn't seem familiar, I guess my mother didn't know him. Or maybe she did, and just hasn't told me about him. I'd ask her if she did know him, but you see, I havn't seen my mother for years. And your very welcome. I'm glad I was able to help in some way."
She surprised herself at how easily it was for her to talk about her mother at this moment in time. Perhaps she was finally getting used to the fact that her mother was gone and she would probably never see her again. Not necessarily a good thing, but it was better then her attitude towards it before.
" If you don't have anything else to do, want to stay and talk? I have all the time in the world, especially for you."
Reira was caught off gaurd by his last comment, but she quickly found it amusing and smiled. "Sure, I'll stay and talk. There's nothing important for me to do today anwyay and I always enjoy talking to spirits. Of course its really hard for me to even consider you being a spirit, it almost feels like you should be alive." Which was the truth. Riley looked very much like a lively human. Well except for the transparency, but everything else made it seem like he was alive.
I wonder..how he died. It's rude to ask, so I won't. I'll only know if he wishes to tell me. He doesn't seem tormented..then again, its really hard to read one such as himself.
Sitting down against the tree for a second time, she patted the earth next to her, indicating for him to sit down.
"If you don't mind me asking..what exactly are you trying to find out by finding your fathers friends? Did your dad go missing or something?...um you don't have to answer that question if you dont want to. I just thought it would useful to know if Im going to help you out."

"Jonathan Watanabe? Hmm his name doesn't seem familiar, I guess my mother didn't know him. Or maybe she did, and just hasn't told me about him. I'd ask her if she did know him, but you see, I haven't seen my mother for years. And you're very welcome. I'm glad I was able to help in some way." Riley wasn't surprised, his father was well know in Japan, but everywhere else...not so much.
Heck, he didn't even recognize Reira's mother's name, Samara Marino, but he made a note of it anyways. As he hovered there, he heard Reira answer him. "Sure, I'll stay and talk. There's nothing important for me to do today anyways and I always enjoy talking to spirits. Of course it's really hard for me to even consider you being a spirit, it almost feels like you should be alive."
Riley folded his arms and nodded, yes, it was hard to think of him as a ghost, he sure as hell didn't look like an average ghost. " I know what you mean, if it wasn't for the transparency, I swear I'd think I was alive." he agreed, but a small part of him knew no matter how much he looked like he was alive, he would never be alive, he couldn't hug someone, not unless he possessed a person's body, he could only talk and be heard by a few people, but whatever. No point dwelling on that fact. He opened his eyes and saw Reira sit down against the tree, and motioned for him to sit down, which made him happy that she did want to stay and chat.
He drifted over and sat down, as the leaves above him swayed gently in the breeze. "If you don't mind me asking..what exactly are you trying to find out by finding your father's friends? Did your dad go missing or something?...um you don't have to answer that question if you don't want to. I just thought it would useful to know if I'm going to help you out." Riley, who had been looking up at the sky, looked over at Reira, a bit surprised.
" I don't mind, no, my dad didn't go missing, he...was murdered. Killed in his own office. The same day, I died, though I don't remember anything, all I can recall is black, lots of black." Riley re-accounted, a sad smile on his face. " So here I am, in this prison, to see if I can find anything that'll led me to figure out what happened." That was the main reason, he also wanted to find out where his mother disappeared to, and if there was a chance, any chance, that he could find her. " If you don't mind, can I ask why are you here? You don't strike me as the type to commit a crime, you look too cute to be a criminal." Riley asked, a smile playing on his face.

Reira smiled as he sat down beside her. She loved being out here, in the peace and quiet. It was more relaxing then in the big city and out here the air was much more breathable. The trees swayed lightly above their heads and the sun left pathces of light on her hair and face.
"I don't mind, no, my dad didn't go missing, he...was murdered. Killed in his own office. The same day, I died, though I don't remember anything, all I can recall is black, lots of black." "I'm very sorry," she said sincerely.
She really did feel sorry for him. After she heard his reason for being here, she became more deteremined to help him. Even though her powers weren't much now, she was sure when she got older she would be able to talk to any specific spirit that she could summon. By doing that, lots of decent information could be gained.
It's a new goal now. I'm going to help him no matter what... there is just something 'special' about him. I hope he will stick around until then. After all he is a spirit and he is not confined to these premisses like I am..
"If you don't mind, can I ask why are you here? You don't strike me as the type to commit a crime, you look too cute to be a criminal." She noticed the smile appearing on his face and the mood was lightened considerably. She looked away from him with a laugh and blushing slightly.
"I'm here becuase of my own stupid actions...which could have been avoided if it wasn't for my stubborn and naivness. I'm a pro shop lifter," she said truely and utterly ashamed of herself. She paused for a moment and then went on.
"Back then..,my life wasn't that great. My mother abandoned me and I took that really badly. So to help ease the pain, I think I started rebelling. I know childish right. But since I came here..I think I have really matured...because I have learned the truth about why my mother left. I can learn to love her again instead of hate her."
It felt good to be able to say that. Of course there is a lot more then what I'm telling him. I do deserve to be here though. It's not all that bad. I'm meeting many people that I am beginning to care about deeply.
Reira had shifted her position against the tree so that she was now touching Riley's shoulder with her own. She didn't notice though, for her shoulder went right through his. "Say..will you be sticking around? It would suck to have just met my new ghost friend and have him dissapearing on me for a really long time," she said with a grin.

"I'm very sorry." Riley smiled at her, he was surprised to hear her sound so sympathetic towards him, not that he didn't mind of course. His grin widened as he saw her turn away in embarrassment from his comment. "I'm here because of my own stupid actions...which could have been avoided if it wasn't for my stubbornness and naiveness. I'm a pro shop lifter" Riley couldn't help but gasp in mock surprise. " No way, you? You don't look the type to steal stuff." he said during the moment she had paused before she continued on.
"Back then..,my life wasn't that great. My mother abandoned me and I took that really badly. So to help ease the pain, I think I started rebelling. I know childish right. But since I came here..I think I have really matured...because I have learned the truth about why my mother left. I can learn to love her again instead of hate her." Riley turned his head and smiled at her. " I'm glad you're able to love your mother again instead of hating her. You know things are getting better when you can say "oh well" and laugh it off, you know?"
Riley looked down, hearing Reira talk about her mom reminded him of his own. "My mom, well, I can't say I hate her, even though she too, left me, when I was 13. That's another reason why I'm still here I suppose, I want to find out if she's still alive or not." Riley said, leaning back, as the sun shone through him. "Say..will you be sticking around? It would suck to have just met my new ghost friend and have him disappearing on me for a really long time," Riley laughed, and smiled.
" Don't worry, I won't be going anywhere, I'll be sticking around for a long while. Why, you'd miss me? I probably couldn't bear to leave anyways, I'd probably end up missing you too much." Riley said, grinning. " Besides, why would I leave when I've made a friend? I'd have to be stupid to just up and leave like that." Even though he was smiling and having fun, a small part of him had a feeling he'd find something here, something that would help him solve the mystery.

"I'm glad you're able to love your mother again instead of hating her. You know things are getting better when you can say "oh well" and laugh it off, you know?" Reira nodded in conclusion. "Thanks, and I couldn't agree more. To be able to to live on without a care in the world would defiantely be something to brag about!"
But of course, living without a care in the world would be absolutly impossible for anyone. In my opinion at least. You can't just live without caring for something, someone at least, right? I mean sure it would be nice to live laid back like that..but such is just a dream. Nothing ever comes easy.
When she finally finished her small and vague tale, she looked to him to see if he had anything else to say. He did. He told her about his mother and how she had left him when he was 13...not knowing if she is alive or not. Reira looked away from him then. The two of them had more in common then she thought.
Her mother left her when she was 10 and her mother, like his, was never seen again. At least they could relate. One of her biggest fears, was seeing her mother standing before her, as a ghost. Not wanting to darken the mood, she went ahead and asked him if he planned to stick around.
"Don't worry, I won't be going anywhere, I'll be sticking around for a long while. Why, you'd miss me? I probably couldn't bear to leave anyways, I'd probably end up missing you too much." She felt a wave of relief wash over her and she couldn't help but laugh. "Yes I think I would miss you! It already feels like we have been friends for a long while now. Weird eh?"
It was more then a little weird, but that wasn't the first priority on her mind. The next step was to think over the next course of action to help solve the msytery of his death. How to do that? A much harder question to answer then she thought. Especially since I don't know the full capabilities of my power...wait..maybe I can test them.
"Riley? Will you do me a favor? I want to try something, could you hold one of your hands in the air, like this," she asked holding her hand out like she was saying stop to someone.

"Thanks, and I couldn't agree more. To be able to to live on without a care in the world would definitely be something to brag about!" Riley couldn't help but grin at her enthusiam, to live without a care in the world sounded impossible, no matter how much someone may seem carefree, inside, they have worries and fears just like everyone else. Riley realized that he and Reira had something in common, both of their mothers had left and disappeared without a word or trace. What a sorrowful thing to have in common.
The solemn mood however, didn't last long, as Reira laughed at his comment about missing her. "Yes I think I would miss you! It already feels like we have been friends for a long while now. Weird eh?" Not really. If someone is friendly, naturally the person they're talking to would be at ease. That was Riley's nature, even when he was alive, he was like that. He saw Reira look like she was thinking, and she then spoke, asking him to do something.
"Riley? Will you do me a favor? I want to try something, could you hold one of your hands in the air, like this." Riley watched as she held her hand out like she was stopping someone, and he imitated what she did. " Like this?" he aked, mimicking what she did, a puzzled look on his face, what was she going to do? He felt like an idiot doing it, but no one but her could see him, so he couldn't complain anyways.

Reira nodded with a smile, signalling to him that he was indeed holding his hand up the way she wanted him to. She could probably guess what he was thinking. Why on earth did she want him to do this. Well, she didn't really know why she had the desire to try what she was going to do, but she figured it was a better time then any.
Her smile quickly dissapeared as she concentrated on formulating deeper into her Qi power. Tentively, she reached out towards his hand, with hers, but to her dismay her fingers seemed to slip right through his hand. Brow now furrowing, she concentrated even harder this time. Then with an odd grace and gentleness, her hand pressed firmly against his, as if it was once again a physical solid substance.
Reira let out a sigh and laughed. "That was harder then I thought. I haven't done that in a while. It seems like I'm getting out of practice," she said her hand still touching his. "It's not like I can just jounce up to some random spirit and ask to touch them after all."
Realizing that her hand was still touching his for a prolonged amount of time, she suddenly stopped channeling her Qi and her hand went through his. Laughing slightly in embarassment, her arm fell rightfully back to her side and she said "Ehehe..sorry about that. I just had to make sure that this power of mine still existed!"
She didn't know what Riley was thinking at the moment. It was hard to read his facial expressions, but she had a funny feeling that he thought she was weird. Perhaps she was in some ways, but she always had her reasons.

Riley stood there, a puzzled look on his face, as he saw Reira smile and nod, indicating that yes, he had his hand in the correct position. He saw her smile fade and replaced with a concentrating expression. He saw her hand stretch out, like she was trying to make contact with his hand, but her hand went right through his. She didn't give up however, and trying a second time, her concentration more intense than before, his puzzled expression turned into a surprised look, as her hand made contact with his, it was like he was alive again and not a ghost.
He heard her sigh and laugh before speaking. "That was harder then I thought. I haven't done that in a while. It seems like I'm getting out of practice. It's not like I can just jounce up to some random spirit and ask to touch them after all." Riley smiled at her, " Well, I have to admit that was certainly surprising. I didn't think you'd be able to make physical contact with me, at first I thought it was weird when you asked me to do that, but now I see why."
Riley continued standing there, his hand pressed against hers, but upon realizing his hand was still in contact with hers, immediately pulled his hand back, and turned his head sideways to hide his embarrassment. " Ah, p...pardon me." he said embarrassed, he hadn't made contact with a girl in a long time, especially a cute girl.
While his head was turned, he heard her say something, and he turned his head to face her again. "Ehehe..sorry about that. I just had to make sure that this power of mine still existed!" " Ah, it's okay, sorry about that, I hadn't made physical contact with a girl in a while, especially someone as cute as you." he said, before realizing he had spoken the last part out, when he actually said it in his head. He cringed inside, cripes, that wasn't good, oh well, he couldn't take it back anyways. " But your powers...they're amazing!" he said, smiling at her.
