OOC: for.... (Mini-me, Reira, Emma, MTP, Solaris)
He was already going to work while the two were at the grave site, he was outside the TARDIS observing the two while messing with his Sonic MAC's ability to analyze people. He knew that this version was an utter failure because it was basically just a sonic screwdriver with a read out, and if all the kids had something like that, then they would be able to take over the world.
"That's.... strange...." He said as the read-out was clearly wrong, it was detecting something in the boy, a toxin of sorts. Something that shouldn't be in use for another fifty or so years. Perhaps this was the first case of this toxin? It was a poison of the 22nd century known as Gallaghers poison.
"Oh that's just coincidence........ right?" But sure enough as Matrim and Reira re-entered the ship the Mac came up with the same readout. "No...... "
The Doctor quickly shut the door behind him with the kids inside and took off to the infirmary, it was a simple enough poison to get rid of with the right equipment as long as it wasn't activated. Once the blood started pumping faster and the brain went into a state of panic however, it was game over. The disease would take over and the person would need to be healed with technology that wouldn't be created until the 23rd century.
It all happened though, he wasn't going to say anything, but then it all happened, the state of panic, this was the second stage of Gallaghers poison. The first was the initial poisoning which either had to be a mass dose or a small amount given over time. The second stage was the initial heart failure, which even if you managed to get their heart working again would slowly deteriorate. The deterioration of course was the final stage of the poison, without a quick transplant they would have to put him on bypass, and in the 21st century, heart transplants for prisoners wasn't very high on the priority list.
"Try not to worry, just keep a hold of him!" The Doctor said as they arrived and the doors flew open, the Doctor had opened them at the control station, "Help me carry him!"
The Doctor lifted up Matrim by the chest and with or without Reira's help lead the way to a stretcher that was empty.
"NURSE EMMA! I NEED HELP OVER HERE! THIS BOYS HEART IS FAILING!"
The Doc then used his Mac monstrosity to send out a message to everyone.
"All available staff with any medical or technologically advanced minds I need you in the infirmary, I have to create an artificial heart and I am drawing a blank! Solaris, Matrim Aldon you teach anatomy don't you? Umm.... yes I believe that should do it. Hurry! A students life is at stake."
They'd have to come up with something fast. This boy would be gone soon.

Reira's panicked state seemed to altogether dissapear when the Doc asked her to help carry Matrim. It wasn't so much that the panick and fear stopped, it was more like it had risen to such a high level, that she appeared calm, one of her mannerisms.
The Doc had grabbed Matrim by the chest as she silently lifted his legs off the ground. If he was heavy, she didn't notice, she wasn't noticing much of anything at the moment. It was almost like she was a walking robot obeying a masters commands.
The two of them had carried him to an empty stretcher. Reira took a step back and just stared at him for a moment, then she looked over to the Doc who appeared to be fiddling with his MAC. The only words she managed to hear were artificial heart, Matrim Aldon and Solaris.
I'll be in the way if I just stand here. There's nothing I can do. So I'll...I'll just wait.
Reira walked silently to the waiting area in the infirmary. Her state of mind wasn't the most stable, she couldn't remember when it ever was. At times like these, when she was scared or depressed, she would wrap herself up in a blanket and hide in her closet.
The best she could do right now was wrap herself up in a blanket she found on a shelf and sit in the waiting area. The blanket went over her head and completely hid her body, only exposing the toes of her converse. Her clothing was still wet from the England rain, she hoped the shivering would stop soon.
Hugging her knees, she closed her eyes tightly. There's so much. The absence of my mother, the death of my grandparents, the hatred towards Rias, the stress of seeing spirits, the loneliness of not having Simon or my dad near, and now this...this is the worse....the worse.

OOC: Unconcious
You know.... you always underestimate how much of the real world around you gets brough into your dreams. Images, sounds, emotions, along with any drug high it can be a roller coaster of emotion that barrel rolls into a bad trip. Especially when nobody is there to hold your hand and say you are going to be fine.
Reira was worried about him and got out of the way, it was the only thing she could do. It was the correct thing to do. Matrim however, was completely useless to help himself. He though about everything that happened that day and wondered why today.
Why today, why five years ago..... are the dates of the events even significant? Or are they just blinding me and keeping me from seeing whats going to happen tomorrow..... Man this is painful.... I really hope the nurse is here. I swear I won't kill the nurse on duty this time. Please don't let me die. I think.... I think if I died now....
Jordans still out there......
I'll kill him if I survive this. He brought it on himself when he poisoned my entire family. God forbid he find out who my mother is before I do. Then again, dad always said she died in child labor. What if Jordan killed her? No... he wasn't around then... he was still getting his degree and researching. Most likely researching whats killing me now..... will I remember any of this?
Matrim felt like he was watching the whole scene from above, like he was somewhere distant from the pain. The only bad thing was, he was very close to the pain. He still felt it no matter how he imagined himself.
If I only had a hearrrrrt...

*Munch* *Munch*
The last time Solaris had watched a movie was over six years ago, when he and Sophia still lived together. Where she was now was a mystery to him, and although she was gone, her movie watching skills had been well passed on. He at first didn't take a liking to them, although particular ones tended to grow on him. He even had a small bucket of digital popcorn as he sat on air and watched a few scenes unfold. Yep, tonight was shaping up to be another non-eventful night.
Yeah. Right.
/START FILE Dated: 6.15.2022 Subject: PRIORITY ONE! Author: The Doctor -- -- /BEGIN/ Message, AI Core.
/End File/
"Hmm?" Solaris checked the message and ate another piece of popcorn. So some student got into more than he could chew again huh? He debated a couple cycles about going. Things like this happened all the time, so why was Doc in such a stressed mood now? Oh well, the movie could be paused, real life couldn't...or at least he couldn't, not yet anyway.
It was a quick shift into the Infirmary, where Solaris stood a full 6' 5" in solid form, and in front of him, lay what appeared to be the corp...body, of Matrim Ghallager, hooray for student databases. "So what seems to be the problem now?" Solaris' eyes could already tell his nervous system was in major shock, along with a heart problem, but there were no bruises or anything indicating a scuffle. He also didn't yet realize Matrim had been poisoned.
"I can't believe none of you got defibrillator!" Solaris said, placing his hands on the boys chest, attempting to keep his heart in regular rhythm as he figured out why the boy was dying. "Alright, someone care to explain why my movie had to be interrupted?"

"Well...." The Doctor said turning his head, "His heart is deteriorating.... it's a two man... three man... well, three person job really...... The point is he needs a heart, or something that can do the same job as a heart, except it can't be susceptible to poison... so a machine really. Point is, he's been poisoned, poisoned for years, and like one gigantic time bomb it was just set off when he started to truly fear and panic, if you need to know the severity of it, the poison is from the future and they call it Gallagher's Poison, get the drift? We have to act quickly!"
The Doctor ran to the defibrillator and started going to work, "So what do you think Solaris? You have any idea of something we can put into this boy, a machine that can go thump and keep his blood flowing?"
The Doctor motioned his head towards the TARDIS which would have an open door, "There are supplies in there, don't tamper with the technology, but using what we have here we should be able to make something....."

"His heart is deteriorating.... it's a two man... three man... well, three person job really......
"You know, a quick, 'The boy's poisoned.' would have done nicely as well." Solaris said in his normal sarcastic manner. Solaris kept the boy's biorhythm steady with a mild jolt of electricity every second or so, but unfortunately, he couldn't keep this up forever. Every time he left the core, he carried a large, but still limited reserve of energy on him. "I really don't know why we're even keeping him alive honestly, there's a lot of kids that die here that we don't save, so why is this one any different? The fusion core could really use a break, and the burner hasn't been used in awhile..."
Solaris stopped after realizing what he'd just said. The Doc was going to have a fury with him after that comment, he could feel it coming. Part of it was truth, how was this boy any different? To be honest, it wasn't his call, if the boy was to live, he'd have to think of something to either remove the poison, or get a new heart and dialate the poison out anyway. Either wasn't going to work for too long, the toxin was in its advanced stages. No, he'd need a technological solution.
Solaris called to a technician. "Get the boy on bypass. If he dies within the next four hours, there is going to be more than one grave to dig. Doc, I'm going to the core to think. I recommend we start thinking about this, the times ticking."
Solaris phased out of the room, leaving behind a dying boy and the Doc. It was time to work for once. Solaris also left a message on the Doc's MAC.
Bring the TARDIS. -Solaris

"This boy was on my watch, he's supposed to LIVE! It was named Gallagher's disease because he was the one who discovered the virus, not because he was the first to die from it!" The Doctor spoke giving his usual distaste for the attitude about serious business, "Besides, he was supposed to fall ill from it when he was in his thirties! He was never supposed to get past the first phase..... "
Did the Doctor screw up the timeline? Yes. Did he do that often? Kinda..... Was it minor enough that it would balance out? yeah. It was very minor in the realm of what really mattered. Solaris left and the Doc watched as technicians took over.
His MAC vibrated and he read the message, "Got it!"
The Doc said, running towards the TARDIS he set the coordinates for the Core and shut the doors. The engines roared to life and he would now be in the core. He ran out carrying some scraps of metal, a stethoscope, his sonic screwdriver, and a jumper cable that was connected to the heart of the TARDIS.
"Any ideas Solaris?"

The reactor was assembled, Matrim lay still unconscious on the gurney as Solaris and Doc rematerialized inside the infirmary. Almost immediately, he ran, grabbed the plastic can of electronic parts from the vacuum chute, and yelled to the technicians. "Prep the boy for surgery, NOW. Roll him into the OR, I'll be there in five minutes."
The young medical students were right on it, the best and brightest in their fields. They would need to remain in top shape for this to go as planned. They all rushed, and shoved Matrim into the OR. Solaris himself started busting out tools and other forms of gadgets he was going to need for this. While doing so however, he talked to Doc. "I've got the AI parts..." Solaris' tools stuck to him much like a magnet for safety, and turning around, continued. "That AI chip needs to be soldered to the back of his cerebellum, as well as wired to the central nervous system to do any good. The body will wire the rest when the core is hooked to it. Now let's get this show on the road before I miss more of my movie."
Solaris, without another word walked into the OR, sending a message to Reira. "There is an observation deck one floor above...just a note to take into consideration."

The Doc appeared rather suddenly and had everything, "Alright then...."
"Prep the boy for surgery, NOW. Roll him into the OR, I'll be there in five minutes."
"I suppose this isn't the time to tell you that I've never performed open heart surgery before, is it?" The Doctor said while looking around for help. He knew it'd be tricky but at least he knew the species well enough. He knew how to do the surgery and he wasn't grossed out by blood, it was just the inexperience that worried him. "Just another machine....."
He thought that to himself to prepare, "Alright, you can handle the cerebellum part right? Or am I going to have to do that too....."
The Doc followed them to OR and got sterile. He got his sonic screwdriver out knowing it would be his tool choice for everything. He wished Matrim was completely and simply just a machine, that could be rewired or reprogrammed, in essence that's what they were doing, just without the reassurance that you can fix any mistake you made without a problem.
"I am never doing this again.... you hear me Solaris? Next time, I'm forcing you into a human body and you're doing this."
Then the Doctor went to work.....

Sitting protected in her makeshift shelter, that consisted of only a blanket and herself, Reira's shivering had stopped. She was almost completely dry now and weariness had begun to take its toll on her, as the mintues rolled by. The minutes seemed like hours to her, but she would not allow herself to fall asleep, not at a time like this. She also would not allow herself to think of anything else but Matrim and his well being.
Head on her knees, she began to focus on keeping awake, wishing there was something more that she could do. That wish should have been dead by now, becuase ther was nothing, but she was presistant and stubborn. Little did she know, her eyes began to feel heavy to a point of almost closing...
Brrzzzt Brrzzzt
Snapping to attention, senses fully awakened, she fumbled for her MAC. It was located in her hoodie pocket. Finally retrieving it, she read the new message.
"There is an observation deck one floor above...just a note to take into consideration."
Solaris.
Standing up abruptly, she grabbed the blanket, and ran for the stairway. How could she forget that there was an observation deck! Running up the stairs two at a time, Reira found herself on the observation deck sooner then expected. Good thing there was chairs in the room, because one glance at the OR made Reira's knees give out. Seeing Matrim getting prepped for open heart surgery, just wasn't something she could deal with right now.
Maybe the observation deck wasn't such a good idea... She found herself staring at her feet.

"I suppose this isn't the time to tell you that I've never performed open heart surgery before, is it?" Solaris looked back and smiled. "Hey! Guess what? My first time too. I'd rather Emma do this, but at her absence, I suppose some medical programming helps too." Solaris walked into the OR, all the prep was complete, and he could get to work. An advantage of being an AI was that sterilization was easy, all he had to do was shed his entire nanite cache and rebuild. Simple as that.
"Alright Matrim. Have a good sleep."
Solaris didn't use a gas anasthesia, instead prefering a direct injection to keep him out while the chip was installed. "Doc, now your chance to get a degree."
Solaris used several buttons on the bed, and Matrim would be flipped over, revealing his exposed back and neck. "It's best we install the chip and nanite cache first, we do that, and I can get better control over his body during the reactor installation. You can sit back if you wish."
This part he dreaded. Normally is was easier, he'd done the procedure twice before, however on unpoisoned bodies. This would be a challenge by either way. "Let's roll." Solaris formed a nanite scalpel in hand, and made the first cut...
-- Six Hours Later --
By this time, the whole plan was going rather well as the nanites from the chip were starting to bond with the boys internal systems. It wasn't complete yet. The wiring had been done to the spine, which was the most time consuming. However, brain wiring was extremely difficult. "Crud, I hate neurosurgery..." Solaris would work for the next two hours attaching the connections properly...

-hours later-
"And here I thought I was going to be able to keep my appetite. Well, what can you do?" The Doctor said as they closed everything and the boys was returned onto his back for the heart surgery, "His body is going through a lot right now, hopefully he makes it through my surgery...... Oh well, lets get to work."
The Doctor's surgery was very nerve wrecking, he made the first incision and continued to go to work, he did all the necessary things in order to disassemble the boys heart, and taking it out, he reconnected the machine heart function of the Core's container. It would pump blood, purify the poisons effects, and make toast. This surgery took awhile, connecting all of the pumps, gadgets, ventricles, arteries, and finally placing it deep into his chest, getting it well in place.
-1 hour later-
"Alright, we are all set up and ready to go........ what do you say we put in the core and close up?" The Doctor had closed most of it, but he had created the placement so that it popped out of his chest, the core would go inside, and then the placement would retract.
The gadget was retracted and the Doctor grabbed the reactor, looking at Solaris he said, "Hope you're ready......"
The Doctor placed the Arc Reactor in, installing it and then retracting the device, he watched as the machine heart began pumping, it was working, and more importantly after scanning the boy with his sonic screwdriver, the poison seemed to be filtering out of his system. It couldn't attack the heart, so it was unable to initiate the second phase as it had with Matrim's old heart.
"Well..... let's close shall we?"

"His body is going through a lot right now, hopefully he makes it through my surgery...... Oh well, lets get to work." This entire process was becoming rather tiring, even for Solaris, who now hadn't slept in about two weeks. He would have to take a maintenence cycle after this whole ordeal was over. However, right now, there was work to be done. Solaris watched over the Doc's shoulder as he skillfully worked to install the arc reactor. He did his job wonderfully, working through the stress of inexperience. Only another hour to go or so...hopefully Reira was feeling okay.
- 1 Hour Later -
"Alright, we are all set up and ready to go........ what do you say we put in the core and close up?" Solaris got up from a seat nearby and put down his book. "Alright..." Solaris started helping to seal the cuts with nanites, ensuring a quick recovery. As he did so, he ran a finger over the reactor, making a connection to it through the core. "Hope you're ready......" "Hit it."
Solaris watched as Doc turned the reactor on...and instantly it began to do its job.
-AI Sync in progress- -Complete-
And with that, the supplemental core was instantly and forever connected to Chronos. Hopefully he wouldn't feel to much towards the connection to a computer...
"Let's get him out of here..."

They took the boy to Post-Op where he would rest, and eventually he might wake up, and be feeling slightly tingly inside. He wasn't sure how the boy would feel being what he now was, but at least he wasn't dead. That was definitely a plus. They lifted the boy onto the Infirmary bed The Doctor took one last look, tired from the operation and walked up to the observation room.
"Reira, are you awake?" The Doctor said, his coat in his arms, and his hands recently washed after the operation, "The operations over, it was a success, Matrim is holding up, he's asleep in post-op, if you want we can give you a bed down there and you can rest near him if your tired, or sit with him until he's done resting. Otherwise he should be stable and you are free to go."

All sense of time was gone. Time stood still for her and wouldn't continue to move until the operation was over. She had only glimpsed down at them during the operation twice. Operations weren't her thing. As strong as her stomach was, the thought of Matrim being under the knife was just to unbearable. So, instead of watching Solaris and the Doc perform the surgery she listened. As long as she heard the steady beeping rhythm, she knew Matrim was alright.
It was this beeping rhythm that eventually caused her to drift off. She was lying on a bench in the observatory room, the blanket wrapped over her. Hours passed. It wasn't until a familiar voice broke her out of her dreamless state that Reira stirred.
"Reira, are you awake?" She snapped to attention and rose to her feet a little too quickly. That odd feeling of momentary dizziness washed over her, something that was caused by getting up too fast. Shaking her head, she answered. "Yes I'm awake..Is it over?" The dizziness dissapeard and she was working on her grogginess. "The operations over, it was a success, Matrim is holding up, he's asleep in post-op, if you want we can give you a bed down there and you can rest near him if your tired, or sit with him until he's done resting. Otherwise he should be stable and you are free to go." Reira nodded and began to walk down the stairs. She would stay with him tonight.
After a few turns down some corridors, they finally made it to the room where Matrim rested. She pushed another bed, so that it was snug beside Matrims..she then turned to the Doctor. "Thanks..for this..for everything," she said with a weary smile. Words couldn't even begin to describe the sense of relief she was feeling, now that she knew Matrim was okay. "If you happen to see Solaris before me, tell him I say thanks."
Hopping into the bed, she kicked off her shoes and snuggled into the blankets, getting as comfterble as she could in a hospital bed. There was an appropriate space separating them. Turning on her side, she watched him sleep for a bit. The fall and rise of his chest was a sure sign that nothing else bad would happen to him. She could fall asleep peacefully now. Her eyes closed, and thats just what she did.
